Introduction

The Greenview Research Group is based at De Montfort University in the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development. It was formed as a result of three research projects funded by JISC's Greening ICT programme and now is home to a new EPSRC Digital Economy project, Gooddeeds. All these projects explore the problem of environmental sustainability through participation and increased environmental citizenship, encompassing the following idea:

"When citizens become involved in working out a mutually acceptable solution to a project or problem that affects their community and their personal lives, they mature into responsible democratic citizens and reaffirm democracy. One way of describing this phenomenon is to use the term social learning." (Webler et al 1995:444)

The site is intended to be both a repository for our new EPSRC project, our previous JISC projects and documentation as well as a resource for those interested in the issues of sustainability. For further details of De Montfort's approach to sustainability please see the links section.
